The Progressive Student Alliance (PSA) chose Labor Day to hold a demonstration protesting the war in Iraq, a move College administrators say prevented them from being able to protest in front of Brower Student Center.

PSA President Christine Colonnese said an alternate location request form was submitted to Tim Asher, director of the Student Activities and Leadership Development office, asking to move the demonstration from Quimby's Prairie to the lawn outside of the student center in hopes that more people would see the protest.

The morning started bright and calm, as Drew University's freshman class of 2012 rode with their parents through Tilghman field. This new class comes from the largest pool of applicants in Drew's history, with the total number reaching some 5,200.

St. John's received nearly 200 pints of blood in donations from the first two blood drives of the semester, paving the way for a third, originally unplanned blood drive scheduled for Wednesday.

The latest event, slated to occur from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in front of Council Hall, has been brought on due to the success of the two day back-to-school blood drives on August 28 and 29 and a blood shortage, said Kevin Ryan, associate for the Office of Community Relations.

The idea of a smoking ban on campus has evoked a mixed reaction recently with St. John's students. These reactions come on the heel of a decision to ban smoking on campus at Montogomery College in Maryland last week.

According to CNN.com, the American Nonsmokers' Rights Foundation listed approximately 60 college campuses across the nation like Montgomery that have smoke free policies on their campus.
