Many at the College were stunned last year when beloved men's baseball coach Rick Dell headed east to serve as an ambassador for the game he's always loved. One year later, it looks like the move was a success for Dell, who was a major player at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, even tossing out the first pitch during an opening round game between the United States and Korea.

The Quinnipiac women's soccer team finished their 2007 campaign with a final record of 9-7-2. However, this winning record was somewhat tarnished by their record of 2-5-2 in the Northeast Conference. The Bobcats were disappointed by this poor record in their own conference.

From Israel to America, from Long Beach to Long Island, from Brookline to the Main Line, many an undergraduate spent their summer tucked away in some cramped cubicle, photocopying, filing, and fetching coffee. Somehow, amid the resume building and networking, they missed the summer; catching mere glimpses of its grandeur on their way to and from the workplace and, for the lucky few, through high-rise office windows.

New Season, New Coach, New Hopes

Simply put, last season was a disaster. The soccer team won only one game, and gave up forty-nine more goals than they scored. While no one was expecting a Manchester United-like season, no one was expecting a one and fifteen season mimicking the Miami Dolphins of football either.

It's a new semester. That means you can count on three things: bad food, freshmen vomiting and the glorious return of Around The Dorm. This week in AtD, staff writers Steve Cohen and Duncan Slobodzian and Opinions Editor Michael O'Donnell battle it out over the Olympics, the G-Men's chances for a repeat and the team most likely to miss the MLB Playoffs.

"Disheartening" and "disappointment," are the words used by head coach Becca Kohli and captain Megan Sciascia to describe the 2007 season for Quinnipiac University Field Hockey.

To understand how far the Bobcats have come from last season, look no further than the preseason coaches' poll rankings.

Silver Lining for the Pinstripes

If only one phrase could describe the 2008 Yankees, it would probably be "unbelievably frustrating". They win two, they lose two. They win five out of six, they lose three out of four. They split with the Angels but finish the series strong, and then they get swept a week later.

On December 3rd 2007, I published an article titled "Say Yes to Santana." Granted it wasn't the best piece of journalism, however the message was clear and I hate to say I told you so, but... well... I told you so. Of course you can jump on Hank Steinbrenner's band wagon and blame the lost season on injuries, but that's the easy way out.

Recruitment rarely bolsters starting lineups instantly. Coaches draft players with the realistic goal of improving their teams in the long run.

However, this year's incoming class is an exception. Several quality soccer and field hockey recruits with solid backgrounds will make an immediate impact in game-play situations.

When last school year came to a close, it marked the beginning of a fresh start for the Red Storm men's basketball team.

After a very hectic off-season, where both junior Larry Wright (Oakland University) and sophomore Michael Cavataio (Holy Cross University) announced they wouldn't be returning for the upcoming year, the team needed to have a productive summer.
