I have become preoccupied with paper; how much we use, how much is recycled, how much is not recycled, where it goes after we are done with it, how many trees we could save if we decided to make it mandatory to print double-sided - there's a lot to think about.

Don't skip the experience
Last year, I remember my first semester as a freshman having my First-Year Seminar at 9 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday, so I booked an 8:45 a.m. class on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I thought if I woke up at the same time every day, it would make things easier for me.

Four years is a long time but when we are discussing politics, it seems like an eternity. Think of all that has occurred in the past four years since Bush's "re-election". In 2006, we had the Democrats, led by Speaker of The United States House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi, taking control of Congress and claiming that they would put an end to President Bush's policies yet that change never came.

Move-in day: exciting yet dreadful. Coming back to MC is always exciting, especially if it's a first-time experience. Freshmen and transfers have it easy, the volunteer moving crew makes moving in a piece of cake- everything carried up the stairs and right to the room.

Barrack Obama might be right. If ever there was a time for change we
can believe in, it would seem to be now. At the Wilf Campus, anyhow.
These days nowhere is more ripe for change than the Y part of YU, and
things already seem headed in the right direction.

In order for any free market to function properly consumers have to have choices. Being able to choice between one type of product and a competitor keeps entrepreneurs thinking and innovating on how to keep price down and quality high. The formation of monopolies breaks down competition, and market forces cannot keep prices and quality in check.

Even before a candidate is elected, the public can gain a sense of how they will act once they take office, based on the decisions the candidates make during their campaigns. A good example of this is the Republican nominee for president, John McCain.
McCain, who has been involved in national politics for more than 20 years, had one last major decision to make before the election-choosing a safe running mate.

Early Friday morning on Aug. 8, CNN was ablaze with news that Russia was bombing the Georgian province of South Occetia. There was little explanation of what the conflict between Georgia and Russia really was about. The aggressor appeared to be Russia after it moved its 57th Army Division into the small province; allegedly to rescue and protect Russian peacekeepers.

While watching Michelle Obama's speech on August 26, I did not feel like I was watching part of this presidential campaign, but rather listening to an inspirational story of an American Dream.
I could imagine a sense of hope washed over anyone who was tuned in, the hope that no matter where we come from, each of us has the potential to contribute to this world.

Construction has clearly become a major issue here on St. John's Queens campus. Whether people are complaining about the mess or looking forward to the new look of campus, students and faculty alike are anxiously awaiting the end of construction.
One of the first projects to be completed was the townhouses.

Last semester, a controversy arose after the Torch printed a Letter to the Editor that questioned the place of a Hindu Students Association in a Catholic University.
Writing about faith and spirituality is a very sensitive area which could easily lead to students being offended.

As we prepare to ring in another school year, we at the Envoy have been extra busy, readying this first issue for a very early publication. Taking advantage of the early publication date, we decided to temporarily change our shape a bit, shifting much of our focus to what has happened since we've last seen you (CUNY budget updates, Hunter's summer session, as well as summer fashion, entertainment, and more).

The Democratic ticket has been punched for November. It is Barack Obama and Joe Biden? Biden? Biden who? Some may wonder, even though he has spent over 20 years as a senator from Delaware.
Biden offers a well experienced running mate when it comes to foreighn policy.

Tuesday's New York Times article, A New Twist in the Debate of Mothers, interviewed women across the country asking their thoughts on John McCain's vice presidential pick, Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska.
The article doesn't focus on Palin's role as a mother of five, her youngest, is an infant suffering from Down syndrome but more on how that role will coexist with her new one as vice president of the United States if McCain is elected.

Millions of people have been energized by Barack Obama's campaign for the presidency. After eight disastrous years of George W. Bush, they are excited to see an inspiring, young politician with a multicultural background have a real shot at the White House.

Is it better to die young or live a long life in music? The logical answer is to live a long life and have a long career, but it is not that simple.
Artist who die early in their careers have an advantage in this argument. The Rolling Stones are dinosaurs, and their catalog of music is very extensive.

Last Thursday night Barack Obama said, "I will end this war in Iraq responsibly, and finish the fight against al-Qaida and the Taliban in Afghanistan."
It was a night of real enthusiasm - a kind of night American politics has not seen for at least 16 years, since Clinton's first run in 1992.

Two years ago, almost to the day, I cracked open the door of Tolley 125, and began one of the most harrowing dorm experiences of my life. Dim and flickering florescent lights made the hallway feel more like a J.J. Abrams movie than a dorm. The bathrooms nauseated me on a good day, with various creatures inhabiting the showers and the décor nearly unchanged since 1968.
